Slovak carriers resume blockade of the border with Ukraine – customs

The Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS) has announced the continuation of the blockade of the border with Ukraine at the Vysne Nemecke-Uzhhorod border crossing point.
According to Ukrinform, this is stated in a statement by UNAS on Facebook.

It is noted that the blocking of the Vysne Nemecke-Uzhhorod checkpoint will begin on December 11 at 15:00 and will continue until the carriers’ demands are met.

“This decision was made based on an assessment of the information received and its impact on the Slovak automotive market. We join the protests that have been organized in Poland since November 6 and in Hungary since December 11,” the statement said.

The border will be blocked for cargo transportation, but passenger traffic will not be restricted.

As reported by Ukrinform, Hungarian carriers said they intend to block the Záhony-Chop checkpoint on the border with Ukraine starting December 11, demanding the abolition of preferences for our country in the field of cargo transportation.

On November 6, Polish carriers began a blockade of truck traffic near the three largest checkpoints on the border with Ukraine: “Korczowa-Krakowiec, Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska, and Dorohusk-Yagodyn. Among the main requirements is the return of the practice of permits for Ukrainian carriers, which was abolished by the agreement with the European Union by June 30, 2024.

On December 1, Slovak carriers joined the Polish border blockade. They started blocking truck traffic through the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint, which is adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint Uzhhorod. In the evening of December 4, this action ended, and the checkpoint on the Slovak-Ukrainian border was unblocked.
