Staromayorske liberated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces: what’s next and why the situation needs to be seen in 3D

The liberation of Staromayorske is a much-needed step to further advance on Staromlynivka, but the main fighting is likely to take place a little further west.

Thanks to the successful actions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, in particular the 35th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrogradsky and the 7th Separate Battalion “Arey” of the 129th Separate Brigade of the TRO Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the settlement of Staromayorske was liberated.

This success is extremely important for the advancement of Ukrainian defenders, as it lies on the axis in the direction of the really key settlement of Staromlynivka. Because it is already an important crossroads, after which the possibility of changing the direction of attacks in any direction opens up.

And this plan became quite clear with the beginning of the battles for the Vremiyivsky ledge in mid-June, when Ukrainian soldiers drove the occupiers out of the settlements of Neskuchne, Storozheve and Blahodatne.

At the same time, the situation should be viewed not only on the basis of a single “flat” map, but also taking into account the relief, which, despite the fact that we are talking about the South of Ukraine, does not mean that it is a “flat table.” And the fact is that Staromayorsk, followed by Zavetne Zahidzhennia and Staromlynivka itself, are located in the valley of the Mokri Yaly River.

And that is why it is not only the movement along the lowlands that deserves attention, but also the heights that are nearby. In particular, according to one of the members of the Information Resistance community, Konstantin Mashovets, “the most active actions over the past days took place in the area of Pryiutne and northeast of it.”

That is, the liberation of this settlement, followed by further development to Remivka, will lead to a change in the configuration of the front, and in the event of a breakthrough in the enemy’s defense further to Lyubymivka, will create all the preconditions for an effective assault on Staromylynivka.

This situation is fully understood by the Rashists, so their command, according to Mashovets, keeps quite a large force consisting of units of the 336th Separate Marine Brigade and the 34th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, which hold the Volodymyrne-Pryiutne-Remivka section.
