State banks of Turkey have stopped servicing Russian ‘mir’ cards

However, the country's authorities are developing an alternative for them

Turkey’s state banks Ziraat, VakifBank and Halkbank have stopped servicing the Russian ‘mir’ payment cards. This is reported by the Russian NTV with reference to the Turkish channel.

It is noted that there is currently no confirmation of this information from official sources. However, the day before, private banks in Turkey introduced similar restrictions. The motivation for such a decision was the threat from the US Treasury to apply sanctions against Ankara. Subsequently, NTV, citing the Turkish newspaper Aydınlık, added that the Turkish authorities had developed an alternative to the Russian system. It is supposed to be publicly announced in the next two days.

Mind previously reported that Turkish hotels have stopped accepting Russian ‘mir’ cards. The corresponding initiative came from the country’s central bank.
