Sweden to consider supplying Ukraine with fourth-generation Saab JAS 39 Gripen multi-role fighters

The Swedish government will instruct the country’s armed forces to assess the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets. This was reported by Ekot radio.

The Swedish government wants to know how the delivery of fourth-generation fighter jets will affect the Scandinavian country’s defense capabilities. The authorities also want to know how quickly they will be able to get the new Gripen.

In addition, Sweden intends to determine how ground personnel will be trained and how Ukrainian pilots will be trained. In the spring of 2023, the Scandinavian authorities allowed the pilots of the Ukrainian Air Force to train on the Saab JAS 39 Gripen multi-role fighter.

The Swedish Armed Forces are to submit the results of the analysis to the government by the end of the fall of 2023. After that, the government will decide on the supply of Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighters to Ukraine
