Prime Minister: Sweden will not give Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine yet, as they are needed for its own defense

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that the country needs Gripen fighters to ensure its own defense. This ruled out the transfer of aviation to Ukraine.

“We do not rule anything out in the future. We will do our best to support them, including with aircraft. But right now there are no new commitments to supply Swedish aircraft to Ukraine,” Kristersson added.

During his visit to Sweden, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked the Prime Minister of Sweden to supply Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets.

The Prime Minister of Sweden said he would allow Ukrainian pilots to test Gripen aircraft, but did not provide specific commitments regarding their transfer.

On August 19, it became known that the Ukrainian military was testing Swedish Gripen fighters.
