Tensions in the Middle East: Iran may attack Israel in the next 48 hours

The United States warns of a possible Iranian attack on Israel within the next two days. Israeli defense forces are stepping up their readiness in response to US intelligence reports indicating that an attack on the southern or northern part of the country is likely. Iran, in turn, is preparing plans for a strike in response to last week’s attack in Damascus, which it believes to be an Israeli air strike.

According to the Wall Street Journal, these plans have not yet been approved, although Iran has publicly declared its intention to retaliate. U.S. intelligence reports also confirm the seriousness of the situation, pointing to the possibility of a strike within Israeli territory.

Due to the increased threat, the United States has banned its government officials and their families from personal travel outside of central Israel, including Jerusalem and Beersheba. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to respond to any attacks, saying that Israel is ready to act both defensively and offensively.

International attempts to prevent escalation include calls from the foreign ministers of Germany, the United Kingdom, and Turkey to their Iranian counterpart, urging Tehran to refrain from aggression. Meanwhile, France has evacuated the families of its diplomats from Iran and is advising its citizens to avoid traveling to the region.
