Tesla equips cars for new owners from the UK with sticks

New owners of Tesla’s Model S and Model X in the UK will receive special sticks with their cars, Electrek reports.

At the end of June, Tesla surprised its fans with an exclusive accessory that will be available only to owners of new electric cars in the UK. This is a special stick that looks a bit like a telescopic smartphone holder for taking selfies. It is designed to open the window on the passenger side.

The fact is that Tesla recently decided to stop selling Model S and Model X cars in right-hand drive configurations in some small markets, such as Australia, Singapore, and Thailand. On the other hand, in countries with left-hand traffic, where demand for the brand’s cars is higher, such as the UK, there will be more electric cars with steering wheels on the left.

Many customers were upset by this, as their pre-orders were canceled. However, some of them still decided not to give up on electric cars and bought cars in an unusual configuration. Specially for them, engineers have developed an accessory called The Reacher so that the driver can reach into the passenger window and, for example, take a parking ticket, pick up an order at a fast food restaurant, etc.

These are not all the unexpected changes. From now on, Model 3 and Model Y electric cars will have a new color, Midnight Silver, or “silver asphalt.” Car owners will not have to pay extra for this. It’s worth noting that Tesla doesn’t experiment with colors too much and produces mostly standardized cars.

Model 3 and Model Y were originally black, but in 2019 they suddenly turned white. This was associated with the optimization of certain processes in production. It is not known for certain why the company of serial businessman Elon Musk decided to switch to Midnight Silver and how long this color will be the base color. However, buyers can always pay extra to get a car in any other color. For now, the Model S and Model X will be produced mainly in white.
