Tesla explained why it began to save on car keys

Now, if you wish, you can buy a Tesla key for $175.

Tesla has stopped providing owners of Model S and X with a branded key fob in the shape of a small car as standard equipment. Instead, new owners only receive a Tesla key card. If buyers want a key fob for the Model S and X, they can purchase one at the Tesla Store for $175. Now that’s an option.

It is reported that the transition to selling Model S and X without fobs took place on July 1. The company has finally given an official announcement to this decision: according to a Tesla study, ‘most owners are happy to use their mobile phones to access the car.’ Alternatively, they can use a key card, but a smartphone remains the preferred method

When the Model 3 was first released in 2017, Tesla initially sold it to customers without a key fob to save money. However, the company later introduced Model 3 key fobs at the Tesla Store in 2019. Then Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla really needs to provide all owners with a ‘normal key.’

European buyers who have booked their cars are expressing increasing excitement on forums. The updated Model S and X are still unavailable in Europe, despite being available in North America for over a year. Tesla’s European websites no longer show any expected delivery dates for the Model S and X.
