Tesla Model Y and several Chinese cars crashed in a crash test: the results

Euro NCAP has published another round of safety ratings. Among the tested cars are the Tesla Model Y, Genesis GV60 and Kia Niro, as well as the Chinese ORA Funky Cat and WEY Coffee 01.

The latest Tesla Model Y crossover, built at the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin, scored an impressive 97 percent in the adult occupant protection system and a near-perfect 98 percent in the safety assistance system.

Chinese manufacturers tried to enter the European market before, but they did not always show satisfactory crash test results. However, Great Wall Motor has proven that it can produce safe cars, with the electric ORA Funky Cat and WEY Coffee 1 receiving the highest score of five stars.

Korean brands also performed well. The Genesis GV60 electric SUV has been awarded five stars, although it has the potential to improve the protection of vulnerable road users. And the Kia Niro won four stars, because buyers of this car have to pay extra for the additional DriveWise security package to increase its safety.

The third-generation Hyundai i20 shares four 2021 stars with the close BAYON. And new electric variants of existing Stellantis models – the Citroen ë-Berlingo, Opel/Vauxhall Combo e-Life and Peugeot e-Rifter – have been added to the 2018 output of models with internal combustion engines.
