The Armed Forces managed to shoot down a Russian ‘analogue’ of the Bayraktar TB2 drone in the sky over Ukraine
On November 15, soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to shoot down 11 Russian drones, including the Orion UAV, in the sky over Ukraine. Information about this was posted on Facebook by the Air Force Command.
On the specified day, Ukraine was subjected to massive rocket fire. Air defense forces managed to intercept 73 missiles. In addition, 10 Shahed-136 UAVs were destroyed. ‘Orion’ turned out to be another downed drone. Such aircraft entered service with the Russian army relatively recently. They are produced by the Kronstadt company.
The manufacturer positions the drone as a Russian analogue of the Bayraktar TB2. Tests of ‘Orion’ began at the end of last summer. ‘Kronstadt’ management promised to complete them by the end of this year. The contract for the supply of ‘Orions’ was concluded by the Ministry of Defense during the ‘Army-2022’ forum.
‘Orion’ belongs to the class of multifunctional drones. This means that it is suitable for solving various tasks. The danger of this device is due to its ability to carry on board aviation bombs such as the KAB-50. In addition, ‘Orion’ can use UPAB-50 guided aerial bombs, air-to-surface missiles, as well as FAB-50 unguided aerial bombs to hit targets. At the same time, ‘Orion’ is able to carry several types of ammunition on suspensions.
A white cap can be found in the front part of the fuselage. A satellite communication module is hidden in it, which allows you to operate the drone at a considerable distance. The Orion brand is used by Kronstadt to promote the attack drone in foreign markets. The company produces aircraft for the needs of the Russian Armed Forces under the brands ‘Inokhodec’ and ‘Orion-E’. According to experts, they may differ from each other in terms of technical characteristics.
