The Pentagon decided to strengthen the combat capability of the Armed Forces with the help of land-based Sea Sparrow missiles. In the whole world, only Taiwan has such missiles. According to Politico, the missiles will be included in the new defense support package.

The publication’s sources claim that Ukrainian engineers modernized the Soviet ‘Buk’ complexes. They can now be used to launch Sea Sparrow missiles. The US and its allies use naval platforms to launch anti-aircraft missiles.

American anti-aircraft missile Sea SparrowSea Sparrow was developed by Raytheon engineers together with colleagues from General Dynamics. One rocket costs 165,000 USD. It is capable of hitting aircraft and cruise missiles within a radius of up to 30 km. After launch, the Sea Sparrow reaches a speed of 4,200 km/h (Mach 3.5). A semi-active radar head is used in the missile to guide the target. The US Navy uses such missiles to protect ships. The Armed Forces will be able to use the Sea Sparrow to shoot down Russian cruise missiles at an altitude of up to 15,240 meters.
