The Armed Forces of Ukraine started deploying the NASAMS system in Ukraine
Raytheon Technologies handed over the first two NASAMS air defense systems to the Ukrainian army. According to Defense News, the Armed Forces have already managed to start deploying an air defense system that allows interception of a wide range of aerial targets – from drones to fighter jets and cruise missiles.
Greg Hayes, who is the head of Raytheon Technologies, noted on this occasion that the NASAMS complexes manufactured for Ukraine were delivered by the company to the American government two weeks ago. The day before, they were handed over to the Ukrainian army.
The top manager emphasized that NASAMS belongs to the class of short-range systems. Modernized surface-to-air missiles are used in anti-aircraft missiles to hit air targets. Complexes can be used to destroy UAVs, military aircraft, missiles and other aerial targets.
NASAMS is a mobile air defense system. This means that it can change its location. According to experts, two or three of the above-mentioned complexes or IRIS-T are needed to cover the sky of the capital of Ukraine.
