The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive an outdated version of ATACMS M39 from the time of Desert Storm

Business Insider correspondents talked to American retired artilleryman Dan Rice. In his opinion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive an outdated version of ATACMS M39 from the United States. Such missiles were used by the US Army in Iraq in the early 1990s.

Rice argues that even in the M39 version, the ATACMS missile is quite lethal. It contains 950 M74 anti-personnel submunitions. The container with them is detonated in the air. As a result, submunitions cover a certain area.

With the help of ATACMS M39, the Ukrainian military will be able to block the supply routes of the Russian army without access to the Azov Sea. To do this, it will be enough to take the railroad under fire control using HIMARS systems.

The ATACMS M39 missile is capable of hitting several artillery pieces at once. To destroy the front and rear battalions, the Ukrainian Armed Forces can receive M26 unguided missiles from the Pentagon. As with ATACMS M39, they are outdated. At the same time, this will not affect the effectiveness of defeating manpower.
