The CEO of Google announced the reduction of 12,000 employees of the corporation
Another IT giant is cutting a large number of its employees.
What is known
In an open letter published on the corporation’s blog, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that 12,000 Google employees will be out of a job in the near future – that’s 6% of the total number of employees.
He noted that this is a forced measure and hopes that all those dismissed will accept the news of layoffs with understanding and find themselves at another place of work. To soften the consequences of the dismissal, Google will pay severance pay in the amount of 4 months’ salary + a bonus for each year worked for the corporation, as well as guarantee health insurance for six months and assistance in employment.
Such a mass layoff is caused by the general economic crises, rising inflation, the decline of the information technology market, optimization of the work process and cost reduction after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
