The European Parliament has supported a ban on the sale of cars on diesel and gasoline since 2035

The European Parliament on Wednesday supported changes to the rules proposed by the European Commission, which provide for a total ban on cars with internal combustion engines until 2035.

The initiative was supported by 339 MEPs, 249 opposed and 24 abstained. This was reported by the press service of the European Parliament.

According to the proposals of the European Commission, by 2035 the EU should achieve zero levels of harmful emissions for road transport.

An intermediate target is also set by 2030: to reduce emissions by 55% for cars and by 50% for heavy trucks.

Some MEPs called for a reduction in total abstinence by 2035, but the majority did not support it.

Now the parliamentarians will coordinate the adopted document with the representatives of the EU member states, as a result of which the law will be adopted.

The European Commission submitted its proposals to reduce harmful emissions in July 2021. Their goal is to ensure that the EU’s 2030 and 2035 climate change mitigation targets are met.
