The first NATO robot, THeMIS, entered service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Hospitaliers and Petro Poroshenko brought the first THeMIS robot to Ukraine as part of the Crane project. The former president of the country announced this on Facebook.

According to Poroshenko, THeMIS robots are in service with NATO armies. The Armed Forces will use them to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield instead of medics, as well as to transport weapons and other useful cargo.

Specifications:

  • mass: 1.63 t;
  • maximum speed: 20 km/h;
  • autonomy of work: 15 hours;
  • autonomous operation on electricity: 1.5 hours;
  • equipment: HDR, thermal imaging and infrared cameras;
  • load capacity: 750 kg.

THeMIS is supplied by the manufacturer complete with a platform for transporting goods and people, storage boxes for tools, etc. Optionally, it is possible to install weapons to suppress firing points. In combat conditions, the robot was tested by the French army during a counter-terrorist operation in Mali. In total, THeMIS is operated in 12 countries of the world. Seven of them are part of NATO.
