Thanks to the solar panels, the device will provide Ukrainians with communication even during blackouts.
An energy-independent base station was installed in Odesa region. The device will be able to operate during rolling blackouts, said Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Fedorov.
According to the official, the base station was installed by lifecell mobile operator. Power is provided by 7 solar panels, and they accumulate energy around the clock.
“Thanks to this, thousands of Ukrainians are connected even when there is no electricity,” emphasized Fedorov.
The base station is currently in test mode. Engineers constantly monitor its operation. According to them, the connection is not interrupted and is of excellent quality.
Mikhail Fedorov said that Ukrainian telecommunications specialists are already preparing for the autumn and winter period. Thus, it is known that more than 90% of base stations (BS) received batteries, about 10% received generators (34 thousand BS in total).
“Operators are replacing lead batteries with lithium batteries to ensure that the connection lasts longer in the absence of power,” Fedorov added.
