The iPhone maker turned factory workers into serfs

Hundreds of workers at China’s largest iPhone factory were detained during the protests. They are not satisfied with strict quarantine restrictions and working conditions. According to Bloomberg, a video shot at the Foxconn plant has appeared on social networks. This company has the status of a key contract manufacturer of Apple electronics.

One of the workers of the plant said on condition of anonymity that the protest started at night. The reason for its holding was non-payment of wages and fears of employees about the spread of the disease. During clashes with the police, several employees of the enterprise were injured. The management of Foxconn refused to comment on the incident at the factory.

Negative sentiments among the company’s employees intensified after the introduction of the lockdown last month. The staff of the iPhone City factory is 200,000 people. Because of the lockdown, most of it was sent to isolation. Workers began to complain about the lack of medicines and food. Many of them escaped from quarantine.

According to Foxconn’s announcement, a special control system is used at the iPhone City plant. The workers live in the factory. They do not come into contact with outsiders. According to Bloomberg, in order to lock the workers in the factory as serfs, the management promised them high wages. The night protest shows that Foxconn’s top management did not keep its promise.
