The Jahanam multiple launch rocket system is capable of firing 240 missiles in 2 minutes

The Jobaria Defense Systems Multiple Launch Rocket System, also called Jahanam, is a multiple launch rocket system manufactured for the United Arab Emirates Army. The launcher has 240 barrels, making it the world’s largest rocket artillery by number of barrels. The system was developed by the joint venture Al Jaber Land Systems.

The Army of the United Arab Emirates requested to install a battery of rocket artillery on one vehicle, as the army uses six BM-21 Grad vehicles and 30 soldiers for maintenance. Due to the small number of soldiers in the United Arab Emirates Army, one large launcher with several launchers on one platform has an advantage over using a large number of machines.

A multi-starter plant requires a team of only three people to operate and start up. Four missile launchers are attached to the trailer, each carrying sixty 122 mm missiles. The system launches 122-mm Roketsan T-122 Sakarya missiles equipped with an explosive warhead. The system operator can choose how many and which capsules to launch. All missiles can be launched in less than two minutes, with a rate of fire of 2 rounds per second.

After the missiles are launched, the system can move and continue firing missiles if it has not launched the entire payload or can be rearmed by a support vehicle in 30 minutes. The support machine has two cranes, each of which reloads two capsules of the system.

The main weapon of the Jahanam is the Turkish-made Roketsan TR/TRB-122 long-range artillery missile. These missiles come with high-explosive warheads and steel ball warheads, the latter of which sends thousands of steel balls flying at very high speeds after being detonated by a non-contact fuze. The TR-122 high-explosive projectile has an effective radius of 20 meters, while the effective radius of the TRB-122 steel shot is twice as large.

Technical characteristics of Jahanam:

  • Crew – 3 people;
  • The caliber is 122/107 mm;
  • Barrels – 240 pcs;
  • The rate of fire is 2 shots per second;
  • The effective range is 16 km;
  • The maximum range is 37 km.
