The largest recall in the company’s history: more than 2 million Tesla cars have an autopilot defect
Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, is recalling more than 2 million cars due to an autopilot malfunction. This is the largest recall in the history of the automaker.
This was reported by the publication Bloomberg.
This comes after a two-year investigation by the US Federal Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into Tesla’s autonomous driving technology. As a result, the regulator found that the driver assistance system was partially defective.
“Automated technology holds great promise for improving safety, but only when it is implemented responsibly,” the NHTSA report says.
It is claimed that Elon Musk’s company has to fix the malfunction in more than two million cars. This applies to almost every Tesla sold in the United States since the launch of the autopilot feature in 2015. This is the largest recall in the history of the automaker.
It is worth noting that the automaker’s shares fell by 1.9%.
Tesla has already announced that it will send a software update to fix the problem. This happens automatically and does not require a visit to the dealership, but the US regulator still calls the procedure a recall.
The recall of cars by Tesla
This is not the first time Elon Musk’s company has recalled its cars. Last fall, Tesla recalled about 1.1 million cars in the US due to a problem with power windows.
Also that fall, the company recalled more than 320,000 cars due to problems with the rear lights, and almost 30,000 due to airbag malfunctions.
