The Netherlands wants to send Ukrainian refugees back to “safe” regions
In the Netherlands, Mona Keizer, a member of the BBB party, suggested that refugees should be returned to parts of Ukraine where there is no active fighting.
This was reported by DutchNews.
“We cannot accommodate everyone,” the MP said, noting that the full-scale war in Ukraine has been going on for almost 2 years, and during this time the Netherlands has taken in tens of thousands of refugees.
“The west of the country seems relatively stable to me. Couldn’t Ukrainians safely settle there?” the politician added.
Julian Buschoff, a GroenLinks/PvdA parliamentarian, called the BBB’s proposals “new and disturbing.”
“It is unclear how the BBB is considering sending people back to a country at war,” he said.
Keyser also suggested that Ukrainian citizens who find work in the Netherlands should pay rent and healthcare costs, although many of them already do so.
