The new UAV Speed Racer from Lockheed Martin will work in tandem with the F-35 (video)

Lockheed Martin announced flight tests of the new Speed Racer UAV. This was reported to Air & Space Forces journalists by John Clark, who is the head of Skunk Works, a commercial structure controlled by the American defense giant.

The top manager noted that the cost of a one-time modular multi-purpose UAV is more than 2 million USD. It will work in tandem with the F-35 Lightning II. About 100 million USD was allocated for the development of the drone. Speed Racer devices will be used to create false targets in the air, electronic warfare, sounding, conducting reconnaissance and solving other tasks.

According to the plan of Lockheed Martin engineers, drones will move at a long distance ahead of fifth-generation fighters. The copters will not return after launch. This approach will reduce costs. The valuable nose part of the UAV will descend to the ground with the help of a parachute.
