The new Volkswagen Golf GTI will be electric

Charged Volkswagen GTI will become electric. The first to receive this version will be the new Volkswagen Golf 9.

The famous Volkswagen GTI line is about to be relaunched. The brand will produce sports electric vehicles. This became known to journalists of the CarBuzz website.

They also have a new GTI logo, in which the letter “I” has been replaced by an image of lightning, emphasizing the electrification of the line. On July 25, 2023, Volkswagen registered the copyright for this emblem.

It should be noted that Volkswagen electric vehicles now have charged versions with the GTX designation. However, this name is not as well known to the general public as GTI. Last year, Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaefer noted that it would be crazy to abandon the famous GTI brand in the era of electrification.

The Volkswagen GTI has been in production since 1976. Initially, the abbreviation stood for Gran Turismo Injection (Gran Turismo class cars with fuel injection).

The first in the lineup is the Volkswagen Golf GTI. It received a more powerful injected engine, and its chassis was modified to improve handling. Later, charged versions also appeared in the Polo, Scirocco, Lupo and Up models.
