The new year started with records: Ukrainian Armed Forces shoot down 87 out of 90 “Shahed” militants attacking Ukraine – PS

On New Year’s Eve, Russians attacked Ukraine with a record number of Shahed kamikaze drones and missiles, and Ukrainian defenders destroyed 87 of the 90 drones, a record number of UAVs.

This was reported by the Air Force.

“On New Year’s Eve 2024, the enemy used a record number of Shahed attack UAVs. The attack was carried out in waves from four directions: Cape Chauda, Balaklava – Crimea, Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk – Russia,” the agency writes.

In total, 90 Shaheds were launched, and the Russians also fired four S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles at Kharkiv region, three X-31P anti-radar missiles and one X-59 from the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, the Air Force reports.

An air alert was declared along the routes of the drones in most regions of Ukraine.

“In fact, air defense was operating in all regions. The air attack was repelled by mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces, fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force,” the military said.

In total, on New Year’s Eve, the Ukrainian defenders of the sky managed to destroy a record number of “shaheds” – 87 out of 90, the Air Force summarizes.
