The Twitter app will now tweet

Editors at The Verge noticed that in the Twitter app on iOS, when you swipe down to refresh your feed, you’ll hear some new sounds. One of them is a little trill that sounds when you first eject the tape, and a short confirmation sound after the update is complete (although the sounds are very unnatural).

The Verge editor @jaypeters made a recording, so you can appreciate the new sounds.

It’s not known exactly when this change happened, but it was first noticed on Friday, and since then many tweets about the ‘chirp’ have started to be noticed on Twitter. Although there have been mentions of the new sound before, which could mean that the update is gradually rolling out to users.

Apparently, this isn’t just an iOS change. The same sound was heard by one of the editors of The Verge, who uses an Android smartphone – @pervsinner.

If you want to hear the noise yourself on your phone, just try pulling down to refresh the feed. If you don’t hear it, try force-closing the Twitter app and reopening it, and make sure you’re using the latest version of the app. We’re not sure how widespread this is, so you may not have sounds yet even if you try these steps.
