The US has developed a facade coating that turns into a solar power plant
The NEXT Group (USA) introduced the world to OPV-coated glass (an acronym for Organic Photovoltaic Cells). The mission of this material is to convert the sun’s energy into electricity.
This coating can be applied to various glass surfaces, allowing carbon-based semiconductors to collect energy in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums while transmitting visible light.
Transparent OPV glazing from NEXT Energy Technologies represents an innovative breakthrough in architecture that will change the design of sustainable buildings. This solution will make it possible to turn glass facades into sources of clean and renewable energy.
According to the developers, the OPV coating can be integrated into single, double, or triple glazing. Finished windows are installed in a frame system designed to accommodate glass with wires. Glass factories can incorporate OPV coating into their production process.
NEXT is developing the industry’s first cost-effective and mass-produced OPV coating that will enable facades to efficiently convert IR and UV radiation into energy.
