The US Navy’s maritime drone launches its first-ever missile during a mission in the Middle East

The Devil Ray maritime drone launched missiles for the first time. A US Navy drone is now in the Middle East.

The missiles were launched as part of the Digital Talon exercise, which took place in the Middle East. Prior to that, the US Navy’s underwater, surface and airborne drones reached an important milestone when they helped to monitor Iranian ships in the Gulf of Hormuz and adjacent waters.

The exercises off the Arabian Peninsula were observed by Task Force 59. This is a unit of the US Navy that specializes in unmanned and artificial intelligence technologies.

The military service said that during the tests, naval drones worked together with manned ships to identify a simulated enemy. After that, Devil Ray launched missiles that were able to destroy the targets.

The US Navy believes that the launch of missiles from the Devil Ray was an important milestone for the maritime drone. However, it should be noted that the launch signal was given by the operator who was on the shore.
