The weapon of the future has finally arrived: Rafael officially releases laser air defense system
Israeli engineers propose to install the Naval Iron Beam laser system on warships.
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems presented its new laser air defense system for Naval Iron Beam ships at IMDEX 2023 in Singapore, Shephardmedia reports. This is a naval version of the ground-based Iron Beam system, which is successfully used by Israel to intercept missiles and drones. The Naval Iron Beam is designed to protect ships from various airborne threats such as missiles, drones, and projectiles.
The laser air defense system consists of two main components: a laser module and an optoelectronic module. The laser module generates a high-energy laser beam that is guided to the target by the optoelectronic module. The optoelectronic module provides detection, identification, tracking and targeting using cameras and radars. The Naval Iron Beam can operate both autonomously and in integration with other air defense systems on board the ship.
Naval Iron Beam has a number of advantages over traditional air defense systems such as missiles or guns. Firstly, Naval Iron Beam has very high accuracy and reliability, as the laser beam is not affected by atmospheric conditions or obstacles. Secondly, Naval Iron Beam has a very low cost per shot, as it does not require consumables or fuel. Thirdly, Naval Iron Beam has a very high reaction speed and target destruction, as the laser beam reaches the target almost instantly.
Naval Iron Beam can be used to protect other objects at sea or on shore from air attacks. Laser air defense can be used to suppress or destroy enemy equipment on the ground.
