Instead of the Subaru XV crossover, a hybrid cross-hatch with a stiffer body and advanced equipment debuted in Japan.
Subaru held the premiere of the new, third-generation Crosstrek in its homeland. Previously, the compact cross-hatch had such a name exclusively in North America, but now it will be international – the familiar abbreviation XV has been retired.
The model received an improved version of the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) architecture, modeled on the Levorg and WRX: the structure became stiffer due to more adhesive joints and reinforced suspension mounts. To reduce vibration, engineers used a new mastic at the joints of the panels with the sidewalls. At the same time, the dimensions of the car have almost not changed: the dimensions are 4480×1800×1580 mm, the wheelbase is the same 2670 mm. The minimum ground clearance of 200 mm has not changed.
In the cabin, following the example of other models of the brand, an 11.6-inch multimedia touchscreen with vertical orientation was installed. At the same time, there are no virtual instruments, as in the JDM versions of the WRX and Levorg, in the new Crosstrek. The seats have changed shape and are now attached without intermediate supports directly to the body: this allowed to expand the possibilities of adjustment and at the same time increase the rigidity of the structure.
Parketnik received a revised steering mechanism with electric power on the rail, and following the updated Legacy and Outback, the EyeSight system of the latest generation. It now includes an additional monocamera in the center for better recognition of pedestrians and cyclists and a full all-round view.
In Japan, the new Subaru Crosstrek will go on sale in 2023 and will be available only with the e-Boxer hybrid power plant based on a two-liter gasoline engine and four-wheel drive. Specifications are not yet disclosed. Then it will be the turn of other markets.
