They explode after flooding: a new problem has been found in electric cars

Several such cases have already been recorded in the US in just one week.

A few weeks after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida, local electric car owners faced an unexpected problem. Their cars started involuntarily catching fire right while driving.

Yes, only in the last few days, about ten battery-powered cars burned on the roads. And experts do not yet know how to solve the problem with the ignition of ‘green’ cars.

Experts have already understood what exactly the problem is – after showers, a large amount of moisture got into the battery compartments of cars, which caused corrosion on the power cells. The more they oxidize, the greater the chance of ignition, which in some cases is preceded by an explosion.

The problem also lies in the fact that Florida is the second largest market for electric cars in the entire territory of America. About 95,000 battery cars are registered in this state and it is not yet known how many of them were affected by the hurricane.
