Threads already has 20% of Twitter’s weekly audience

The new Threads app has reached 20% of Twitter’s weekly audience worldwide and 86 times the active user base of Truth Social, Twitter’s main competitor in the US, TechCrunch reports.

Sensor Tower, an application analysis company, also analyzed a slight drop in Threads’ popularity. The number of daily active Threads users decreased by 20% on July 11 and 12 compared to July 8. And the time spent by users in the app decreased by 50%, from 20 to 10 minutes.

According to data.ai, an app market research company, Threads has already gained more than 150 million downloads, which is 5.5 times faster than Niantic’s popular Pokemon Go game, which has had a record number of downloads since its release in July 2016.

Data.ai’s research also showed that Threads attracted about 93 million active users from around the world within a week of the app’s launch.

India accounts for the largest number of Threads downloads in the world (33%), followed by Brazil (22%), the United States (16%), Mexico (8%), and Japan (5%).

Threads is not yet available in the European Union due to regulatory obstacles related to privacy and data collection.

Meta even started preventing EU users from avoiding blocking on Threads by using VPNs.

Recently, Threads released its first update: iOS 17 support, which is now available in public beta.

Additional improvements are planned in the future, such as a news feed, an edit button, support for multiple accounts, and integration with the ActivityPub protocol, which is the basis of the popular Twitter alternative Mastodon.
