Turkish drone Bayraktar Akinci hits a target at a distance of 140 km for the first time (video)

Bayraktar Akinci fired an IHA-230 supersonic missile at a target in the Black Sea during a test.

In Turkey, the Bayraktar Akinci military drone from Baykar has launched the IHA-230 supersonic missile for the first time. The details of the impact tests were published by the Turkish website Savunma Sanayi ST, which covers the country’s military industry.

The developers armed Bayraktar Akinci for the first time with an IHA-230 supersonic air-to-ground missile manufactured by the Turkish company Roketsan. During the tests, the drone took off from the airfield of the Flight Training and Testing Center near the city of Tekirdag, headed to the province of Sinop and launched a missile that successfully hit a target at a distance of 140 km in the Black Sea.

According to the media, the IHA-230 significantly increases the combat capabilities of the UAV, as it has its own propulsion system. It reaches high speed and flies very far, hitting targets with high accuracy. Another advantage is the expansion of the Bayraktar Akinci’s arsenal, as it can provide the Turkish army with the ability to hit more targets of different types and in different conditions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Defense Industry Directorate under the Turkish Presidential Administration reported that the Turks continue to equip Bayraktar Akinci with domestic ammunition and technology. Baykar began 2023 by signing export contracts for the supply of Bayraktar TB2 drones worth $370 million. Up to 75% of this Turkish company’s revenues today come from exports.

In January, it was reported that Bayraktar Akinci could become the world’s first drone with AESA radar. It will allow the aircraft to more effectively detect threats and capture targets for further attack.

On March 27, it was reported that Turkey is preparing to launch a new Bayraktar TB3 attack UAV. This model received wings specifically for deployment on a landing ship.
