Ukrainian driver’s license can be exchanged in Berlin

The first separate unit of the State Enterprise “Document” is starting to operate in Germany, where Ukrainian driver’s licenses can be exchanged.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, more than 1 million Ukrainians have found themselves in Germany, and they need to resolve many issues with their documents.

As a result of cooperation between the State Migration Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, a separate subdivision of the State Enterprise “Document” is starting to operate in the German capital in a test mode.

In particular, the opening of the Passport Service stationary service center in Berlin will provide Ukrainians with valid passport documents, which will allow them to receive financial and humanitarian assistance, work and study permits, and freely cross borders.

The Passport Service Center in Berlin is located at the following address: Am Treptower Park 14, 12435 Berlin, floor 2.

Visitors are served from Monday to Saturday inclusive from 9:00 to 18:00 in a “live” queue (the electronic queue will be launched later).

Here, citizens will be able to receive such services as:

  • issuance of an ID card or passport (including replacement of a lost or stolen one)
  • exchange of an ID card or passport (due to expiration, change of information, or unsuitability for use);
  • exchange of a passport issued in 1994 for an ID-card (upon request or in case of unsuitability);
  • simultaneous issuance of a passport and an ID-card;
    exchange of a driver’s license;
  • insurance.

The driver’s license exchange service is relevant when:

  • the existing one has expired
  • the inscriptions on the plastic form have been erased and are unreadable
  • the person has changed their data – surname, name, patronymic
  • the driver wants to replace the old license with a new one

Documents required to obtain the service of exchanging a Ukrainian driver’s license for an equivalent Ukrainian one

  • passport of a citizen of Ukraine (in case of providing an ID-card without information on the registration of the place of residence in a contactless electronic medium, a certificate of registration of the person’s place of residence is provided together)
  • certificate of assignment of the registration number of the taxpayer’s account card,
  • a document confirming the change of personal data (for example, a marriage certificate),
  • an existing driver’s license to be exchanged.

We would like to remind you that today, in addition to Germany, Passport Service branches are already available in four cities of Poland (Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw), Turkey (Istanbul), Slovakia (Bratislava) and the Czech Republic (Prague).
