Owners of private cars can share them with others for a fee determined by the Uber service. Almost like a taxi, but without a driver.
Uber launches a car rental service in North America. Uber Carshare app allows you to view and book cars from private owners
Uber plans to launch a car-sharing service in North America, the company announced in London.
Last year, the company launched a car-sharing service in Australia after acquiring local startup Car Next Door. The service, which allows users to rent out their cars, was later renamed Uber Carshare.
Customers in the cities where Uber Carshare operates can use the app to search for and book cars that will be available for rent by the hour or by the day. Customers must return the rented car to the place where they took it. Uber said it will offer prices for this service, but owners will have the right to set the final price and determine the availability of cars. Fuel will be included in the rental price.
Uber did not share information on where the car-sharing service might be launched next. However, the company prioritized cities with high population density and a large number of surrounding areas.
