This year, Ukraine and Slovakia plan to launch a new international route connecting Kyiv and Kosice railway stations
This was reported by the Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine.
Denisa Zilakova, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Slovakia, said that the Slovak government has approved a proposal to introduce a direct rail link between Kyiv and Kosice.
“The route will serve, in particular, to enable more Ukrainians to use the services of the international airport in Kosice. The train will travel from Kyiv to Haniska station near Košice via the Pavlovo-Matovske Vojkovce border crossing,” the statement said.
Currently, organizational and preparatory work is underway to launch the new route, namely:
- equipment of the premises for border and customs control
- change of platform at Haniska station near Košice
- Preparation of bus service from Haniska to the airport and railway station in Košice
- concluding contracts for transportation services with the Slovak Railways
- work on finding sources of funding for the project
On March 28, the first international train from Prague arrived in Chop, Zakarpattia, marking the start of new direct daily rail services between Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
