Ukraine receives state-of-the-art French Akeron MP ATGMs (video)
Akeron MP is the world’s first anti-tank missile system. Its ammunition is versatile and allows it to engage targets both manually and in near-automatic mode.
The Ukrainian army has received a 5th generation Akeron MP ATGM. This was announced by the deputy of the National Assembly of France Lioenel Royer-Perrault during the meeting.
Without a public announcement, France handed over the latest Akeron MP ATGMs to Ukraine, also known as MMP and Missile Moyenne Portee. The MP confirmed the arrival of anti-tank missile systems in Ukraine.
“Mistral, 30 CAESAR guns and 6 TRF1 guns of 155 mm caliber, 2 LRU MLRS, Akeron missiles, Crotale systems and VAB armored personnel carriers,” Rouillier-Perrot listed the part of the military aid to Ukraine.
Akeron MP was first announced to be supplied to Ukraine at the beginning of the year. Vice President of the French National Defense and Armed Forces Commission Jean-Louis Thierryot confirmed the delivery of an unspecified number of ATGMs to Ukraine. However, later representatives of the French Ministry of Defense denied Thierry’s statement.
Akeron MP is a lightweight multi-purpose missile with a range of over 4000 meters. The system weighs about 15 kg and requires only a few operators to operate. The starter can also be installed on a vehicle. The system operates on a “shoot and forget” principle, so the soldier does not have to follow the laser beam to the target throughout the flight. All you have to do is grab the target and shoot.
A special feature of the complex is a fiber-optic connection to the launcher, which provides a “man-in-the-middle” mode. The missile can be fired without a specific target, and the operator will receive an image from the homing head. Thus, during the flight, it is possible to change the target or interrupt the firing process.
In addition, the MMP can additionally hit objects behind obstacles, and in the case of tanks, it can attack in the upper projection, like the Javelin. The anti-tank missile has a tandem combat effect, which can further expand the target bank from tanks with dynamic protection to infantry or boats. The missile itself has a reduced recoil system that reduces the launch signature and allows it to hit targets from enclosed spaces.
