Ukraine’s Armed Forces managed to destroy a very rare Russian air defense system that can shoot down ballistic missiles
The defense forces destroyed a rare Russian SAM-300V4 in the Tauride sector. This became known from Oleksandr Tarnavsky.
The commander of the Tavria group reported in Telegram that 46 pieces of enemy equipment were destroyed, including a “Red Book” SAM. The exact number of S-300V4s in the Russian army is unknown. Figures from different sources differ from each other.
The first systems entered service with the 77th Air Defense Mechanized Brigade in 2015. In this regard, the Russian Defense Ministry noted that the brigade received six batteries of air defense systems (“brigade kit”). Each battery contains six launchers, one support vehicle and one missile guidance station. The division is also equipped with a command post and two radars.
Another “brigade kit” has been delivered to the 38th Brigade. Only 12 launchers were captured in the reportage filmed on this occasion. Thus, it can be concluded that in both cases the “brigade kits” were incomplete.
It is worth noting that the S-300V4 is much more expensive than the S-400. This is because the Soviet S-300V system used as a basis for its creation is a separate development designed to intercept missiles. The S-300V4 uses 9M82MV (400 km) and 9M83M (200 km) missiles. Russia claims that the system is capable of shooting down ballistic missiles. Meanwhile, kinetic interceptors are not used in tandem with it. The above missiles are an analog of GEM-T for the Patriot PAC 2. In addition, the system can fire 40H6 and 48H6DM missiles from the S-400.
