Ukraine will be able to independently produce Lynx infantry fighting vehicles
Rheinmetall intends to start assembling Lynx infantry fighting vehicles in Ukraine next year. This was reported by Armin Papperger, who is the head of the concern.
In an interview with a WirtschaftsWoche correspondent, the top manager said that the production site launched in Ukraine will produce not only Lynx IFVs but also Futch wheeled armored personnel carriers. An agreement to start production of armored vehicles will be signed early next year.
The first Futch APCs will roll off the assembly line six months after the contract is signed. In another six months, the company will start shipping Lynx APCs. Thus, the assembly of armored personnel carriers will begin in late summer next year, and BMPs – in the summer of 2025.
The head of the concern emphasized that the assembly of the first ten Lynx infantry fighting vehicles has already begun in Germany and Hungary. Next year, the armored vehicles will be assembled in Ukraine.
The Lynx infantry fighting vehicle was presented by the German concern in 2018. The weight of the combat vehicle is 44 tons. It is equipped with a Lance turret with a 35-mm cannon and an ATGM. The range of the BMP is more than 500 km. It is capable of accelerating up to 70 km/h. The armor of the vehicle can withstand 30-mm shells and 14.5-mm bullets.
