Ukraine will become the world’s first operator of Caracal airborne armored vehicles.
Not long ago, Rheinmetall presented one of its latest developments. We are talking about the Caracal airborne armored vehicle. It has not yet passed operational tests. There is a high probability that Ukraine will become the first Caracal operator in the world.
A trial batch of five armored vehicles will be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by a German concern within one to two months. It is not reported where they will be applied.
The tactical airborne vehicle is based on the civilian G-Class SUV from Mercedes-Benz. It was originally developed to meet the needs of airborne units. Caracal can be transported in the cargo hold of transport aircraft, as well as by CH-47F and CH-53K helicopters on external suspensions.
The new product from Rheinmetall made its debut at this year’s DSEI exhibition in London. The strengths of the airborne armored vehicle include its compactness and the ability to be transported by air. The modular principle was used as a basis for the assembly of the armored vehicle. Caracal’s design can be easily adapted to perform various tasks. The armored vehicle can be equipped with an ATGM, machine guns or a small-caliber cannon. Additional ballistic protection will be available as an option.
