The Ukrainian Defense Forces are preparing to adopt new self-propelled howitzers. We are talking about Turkish artillery systems T-155 Firtina.

What is known

The Armed Forces of Ukraine use self-propelled howitzers from around the world, including the French CAESAR, the American M109A6 Paladin, the German Panzerhaubitze 2000, and the Polish AHS Krab. They will soon be joined by Turkish T-155 Firtina systems.

This was reported by Brigadier General Oleksiy Hromov, Deputy Head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also announced the arrival of Swedish Archer howitzers.

The T-155 Firtina is the longest-range howitzer in service with the Turkish army. It is equipped with a 155/52-caliber gun that can destroy enemy targets at a maximum range of 30 km and 40 km, depending on the type of ammunition.

The Firtina is a localized version of the Korean self-propelled howitzer K9 Thunder by Hanwha Defense. It is characterized by the presence of a Turkish fire control system. All components except the engine are manufactured in Turkey.

Turkey is already working on the next generation T-155 Firtina. The Firtina II howitzer will receive an updated fire control system, increased rate of fire and thermal sights, and the number of crew members will be reduced from five to four.
