Ukrainian air defense to be reinforced with six German TRML-4D radars

Hensoldt, a company operating in the German market, has announced the transfer of TRML-4D radars to Ukraine. These radars are used in tandem with the IRIS-T SLM systems in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the announcement published on the manufacturer’s website, the batch will consist of 6 units. German radars will strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system. The cost of the batch is 100 million EUR. The radars will arrive in Ukraine in the second half of the year. The contract signed with the German company provides for the training of radar operators in Germany.


As part of its defense support for Ukraine, official Berlin has promised to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with four TRML-4D radars. The first of them arrived in the country in October last year. TRML-4D is the latest version of the TRML family of radars. The radar was developed in 2018 by Hensoldt engineers. Currently, it is the main target detection tool in the IRIS-T SLM battery. It is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 1,500 different targets at a distance of up to 250 km. The radar’s efficiency ceiling is limited to 30 km.
