Ukrainian Armed Forces demonstrate Robotsystem 70 man-portable air defense system for the first time

For the first time, the Ukrainian Army has released images of RBS 70 air defense systems that protect the airspace in Kyiv region. The Ukrainian military underwent training on MANPADS simulators in January. Swedish instructors were impressed with the speed of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ mastery of the anti-aircraft system.

The military claims that the man-portable air defense systems depicted in the photos have already shot down several drones and cruise missiles. The exact number of destroyed air targets is not specified.

In addition to the launchers, the Army showed a radar station. Apparently, it is a Giraffe 75 radar. It is designed to work in tandem with short-range air defense systems. The station is capable of detecting targets at a distance of up to 75 km. In addition to the RBS 70, the RBS 90 complex can work with it.

The RBS-70 was developed by Saab Bofors Dynamics. The missile is guided to the target by a laser. The laser beam creates a corridor through which the anti-aircraft missile flies. This method of guidance makes it possible to effectively counteract electronic warfare and heat traps. The range of an anti-aircraft missile can reach 8,000 meters.
