Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on Chongar Bridge cuts off logistics for Russian troops through Crimea

The Strategic Communications Department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed in a Telegram message that it was the Defense Forces that launched a successful air attack on the bridge in Chongar temporarily occupied by the Russian invaders on the morning of July 29.

“The Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully struck the Chongar Bridge on the morning of 29.07.2023. Glory to the Armed Forces of Ukraine!” the statement reads.

Natalia Gumenyuk, a representative of the OC South, commented on the Ukrainian army’s strike on the Chongar bridge, calling the operation a filigree operation.

She emphasized that the work of the Defense Forces is aimed at disrupting the enemy’s plans, not destroying infrastructure.

We continue to establish fire control over all transportation and logistics routes that the enemy can use. The only thing that can restrain the Defense Forces is the presence of civilians, which they do use, alternating vehicles with civilians. This is confusing for civilians, because when they try to leave Crimea, unable to use the Crimean bridge, they try to go around the mainland and become hostages of this military equipment,” said Natalia Humeniuk.

Earlier, the governor of the occupied part of Kherson region, Volodymyr Saldo, said that last night the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly tried to destroy the railway between the region and Crimea. The attack was allegedly carried out with 12 long-range Storm Shadow missiles. Saldo claimed that “all the missiles were shot down by air defense.”

On June 22, it was reported that the Chongar Bridge and the old bridge across the Syvash were hit. On July 5, the Defense Forces reported that they had hit bridges with Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
