Ukrainian engineers have created a huge drone weighing 90 kg: what it can do
A group of Ukrainian engineers has designed a 90-kilogram Dzhmil-90 drone capable of operating in both manned and unmanned modes. The details of the project became known from its founder Ihor Nastashchuk.
The idea of creating a large VTOL drone with an internal combustion engine came to a group of enthusiasts from Kramatorsk in 2017. To conduct ground tests, they designed the FlyingBike2018 aircraft. There was nothing like it on the global market at that time. The engineers literally had to create the drone from scratch.
The project debuted at the Aviasvit XXI exhibition event in 2018. He managed to collect a lot of useful feedback. The quadcopter has a skeletonized metal frame with “helicopter” struts and a Rotax-582 powerplant.
Technical characteristics:
- Takeoff weight: 200 kg.
- Fuel tank capacity: 60 л.
- Weight without fuel: 90 kg.
- Engine power: 65 к. с.
- Flight speed: 100 km/h.
- Autonomy of work: 2 hours.
“The Dzhmil-90 is capable of carrying a unified block with unguided missiles UB-16-57, which weighs about 50 kg. It holds 10 S-5M missiles with a range of 2.5 km.
