Ukrainian hackers hacked the Russian satellite navigation system

Ukrainian IT specialists from the HackYourMom group hacked the navigation satellite system of the terrorist state of the Russian Federation – GLONASS. Cyber security expert Mykyta Knysh reported this on his Facebook page.

Knysh himself does not elaborate on the details of the hack and does not comment on the situation, but he advises the Russian occupiers and criminal special services to remember how to use paper maps, ‘because GLONASS is everything.’ Knysh also ‘scored 2’ for the ‘Model of threats to information security’, which was developed at Bauman Moscow University. The documents also became the property of hackers.

GLONASS is a Soviet, and after the collapse of the USSR, a Russian radio navigation satellite system. The deployment of navigation in space was made with the help of the ‘Glonass-K’ and ‘Glonass-M’ satellites. The GLONASS base consists of 24 space objects that are in Earth’s orbit at an altitude of 19.4 thousand km. According to official data, in 2015, after correcting some errors, the navigation system was commissioned by the Ministry of War of the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian cyber group HackYourMom is the result of the joint work of volunteer programmers and the cyber security team of Mykyta Knysha. Specialists are not only engaged in IT activities, but have also created an educational platform that consolidates information from various areas of cyber security. By the way, at the end of January, HackYourMom hackers leaked the database of the largest Iranian mobile Internet operator IranCell.

This is far from the first victory of our programmers in the fight against the Russian invaders. As a reminder, hackers from Ukraine managed to hack all 79 services of the Russian IT company Yandex. 45 GB of Yandex data was publicly available. There is also freely available code that shows how Yandex changes search algorithms for the sake of Kremlin propaganda.
