Ukrzaliznytsia introduces paramilitary guards on nine flights

Ukrzaliznytsia has increased the number of trains patrolled by paramilitary guards

This was reported by the company, according to Espresso.West.

According to Volodymyr Aleksandrov, director of the executive branch “Departmental paramilitary security” of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, escorts are provided by two employees who are on the train and monitor compliance with the order.

“They help the train crew in case of violations of the rules of conduct by passengers and in case of conflict situations. Any passenger can promptly call paramilitary security officers through a conductor or train manager,” Aleksandrov said.

Thus, in September, the following trains were added to the #RailwaySafety project:

  • No. 29/30 Uzhhorod – Kyiv – Uzhhorod
  • No. 59/60 Chop – Kyiv – Chop
  • No. 85/86 Zaporizhzhya – Lviv – Zaporizhzhya
  • No. 119/120 Zaporizhzhya – Lviv – Zaporizhzhya
  • No. 265/266 Uzhhorod – Kovel – Uzhhorod
  • No. 357/359 Kyiv – Vorokhta – Kyiv

Earlier, in June 2023, paramilitary security escorts were resumed on three trains:

  • No. 41/42 Dnipro – Truskavets – Zaporizhzhia
  • No. 81/82 Kyiv – Uzhhorod – Kyiv
  • Intercity + №712/711 Kyiv – Kramatorsk – Kyiv.

According to the official, the practice of escorting trains by paramilitary guards has shown that this is an effective tool that allows for a quick response to violations of the rules of conduct on rail transport.

“We have responded to the public’s request to strengthen security measures on trains, in particular, by resuming the project to protect passenger trains in motion, launched in 2020. Back then, 10 trains were accompanied by paramilitary guards, now there are 9 such trains, and we plan to increase this number in the future,” Oleksandrov added, emphasizing that Ukrzaliznytsia paramilitary guards have the right to take physical action, detain and hand over offenders to law enforcement agencies.

On May 23, Ukrzaliznytsia announced a pilot project to introduce women’s compartments in trains. This was preceded by a petition in which Ukrainian women asked for separate cars for women for their safety.
On June 12, ticket sales for women’s compartments opened. They can only be purchased online.
