Another novelty of the Turkish defense industry was announced at IDEF 2023 in Turkey. ARES Shipyard and Meteksan Defense presented the ULAQ KAMA surface kamikaze drone.

The maritime drone is designed to protect Turkey’s territorial waters and defend the country’s maritime interests. The drone can carry up to 200 kg of payload, but it doesn’t have to be explosives. The companies said that the drone is capable of operating not only in kamikaze mode but also performing reconnaissance or surveillance missions.

The 1,300-kilogram ULAQ KAMA is over 6.3 meters long and 1.2 meters wide. A naval suicide drone can reach speeds of almost 40 km/h and has a range of over 360 km. According to the developers, the seaworthiness is 4 points.

The detonation of a warhead can be performed by a signal or by direct contact with the target. ULAQ KAMA can operate both under operator control and completely unattended.

The cost of the new kamikaze marine drone is not specified. ARES Shipyard and Meteksan Defense have announced their readiness to deliver up to 100 ULAQ KAMA units within a year.
