Updated Bohdan self-propelled gun system shown in action: photos
The photo shows the work of the Bohdan self-propelled howitzer’s crew: the process of loading and firing.
Artillerymen of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after Kosh Ataman Kostyantyn Hordiyenko showed in a photo how they work with the updated Bohdana self-propelled artillery system. The photo shows the process of charging, taking cover and firing from a Ukrainian self-propelled gun.
The photos show that the artillery part of the updated version of the Bohdana has not undergone significant design changes. In particular, this howitzer is loaded manually. However, it is already known that other versions of the artillery system will be equipped with a delivery vehicle, which should facilitate the work of the Ukrainian wheeled self-propelled gun crew.
As a reminder, in January 2023, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that Ukraine had financed the serial production of the updated domestic artillery system Bohdana in the spring of 2022.
In early May, photos showing the production of a new version of the Ukrainian artillery system were circulated on social media.
Development of the 2S22 Bohdana artillery system began in 2016. This is the first 155-mm self-propelled howitzer developed by specialists of the Ukrainian defense industry. It was first shown in July 2018. In January 2022, Bohdana completed preliminary fire tests. The howitzer fired 450 rounds.
Later, it became known that the Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system was targeting the occupied Zmeinyi Island in the Black Sea. The French CAESAR howitzer was also used in conjunction with the Ukrainian howitzer. The Ukrainian self-propelled 155-mm howitzer continued to strike at the occupiers in other parts of the front.
