Vodafone Ukraine withdraws from the UN Global Compact

Vodafone Ukraine has announced its withdrawal from the United Nations Global Compact. The company did this in protest against the organization’s inaction towards Ukraine and Ukrainians.

What is known

Vodafone Ukraine’s press release says that during the war, the company has seen a number of examples of the UN’s myopia on the problems of Ukrainians.

Unfortunately, during the war, we have seen many examples of the UN’s short-sightedness in relation to the problems of Ukrainians. We are outraged by the inaction and unwillingness to call a spade a spade at a time when Ukrainians have been resisting Russian aggression for 15 months, committing military, economic, environmental crimes and terrorizing civilians.

Vodafone Ukraine states that the development of the UN Global Compact platform is not possible until the basic principles of security in Ukraine are restored. The company does not intend to remain among the UN initiatives, as the organization refuses to accept responsibility and apply leverage for sustainable development.

Vodafone Ukraine is ready to reconsider its position if the situation changes. But for now, she is calling on other Ukrainian companies to withdraw from the UN Global Compact.

The UN Global Compact is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General aimed at promoting social responsibility in business. As of June 2023, the UN Global Compact in Ukraine has 126 member companies.
