“Volunteers” tried to drug wounded soldiers

A criminal group from Lviv region tried to sell drugs to wounded soldiers. They were promised that psychotropics would help alleviate the pain experienced by the defenders.

A resident of Lviv region, together with current and former military personnel, organized an illegal business. They set up a trade in psychotropic substances, including amphetamine, among the local population of Chervonohrad. During the month, the criminals sold about 7,500 doses of drugs worth over UAH 600 thousand.

To conceal their illegal actions, they created a veteran’s public organization. The suspects stored, packaged and distributed narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the premises. Under the guise of volunteers, they even tried to “hook” wounded Ukrainian soldiers on their goods. The criminals claimed that the drugs would reduce their pain.

Law enforcement agencies detained the organizer and an accomplice who tried to sell a 115-gram batch of amphetamine. During the search of the NGO’s premises, packages containing psychotropic substances were found, ready for further sale to wounded soldiers and civilians.

These individuals were served a notice of suspicion of illegal production and sale of drugs on a particularly large scale committed by an organized group (Part 3 of Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). For this crime, they can go to jail for up to 10 years.
